A few dates down and looking for something with a little more sophistication and a little less Bellingham? Scotty Browns my be that place. It is tucked away on the corner of Barkley Boulevard and Newmarket Street in Bellingham Washington. If you were transported there without previously being in Bellingham you might think you are in downtown Bellevue. The inside is very nice, using a lot of modern designs, chromatic colors, and it has a slightly classy feel. By no means do you need to dress up but you may want to avoid the graphic tee. I’d suggest a nice button up shirt and some nice clean jeans.
The menu has a mix of just about everything, burgers, Italian, seafood and Asian. Visit Menu
Rather than a ton of items from the above categories Scotty Browns does a nice job with finding the gems and sticking to them.
I tried the “Fire roasted tomato fettuccine” (grilled chicken) and it was very good. Thumbs up. Also if you are looking for something a little different but delicious before you start with your main dish, try the “crispy calamari.” This starter is definitely a nice route to get those taste buds going as it is a pleasant amount of food that served with a unique and tangy tomato “sauce” to get you ready for your main course.
The prices are what you might expect from someplace in the big city but still reasonable given its overall feel and setting. The average price for a meal is around 16 bucks.
Scotty Browns also has stylish round bar lined with stools and outside of that there are plenty of booths and tables for large parties, small parties, and couples wanting to enjoy each others company, have a drink, catch the game, or dine in a social setting. On one Friday night the bar area seemed pretty packed and at times got fairly loud. Also, the bar area was equipped with many flat screen TVs hanging from the walls and ceiling broadcasting the big games.
Pros: Overall it had good food, good drinks and a lively atmosphere. Plenty of choices if you or your mate are divided on what you each want.
Cons: Might be a little higher in price from another restaurant serving similar items.
